ABOUT

My name is Ryan Hanigan. 

I’ve been an “insurance guy” since entering the industry in 2013.

I started out my insurance career at one of Chicago’s largest privately held insurance agencies.

After four years learning and developing as a producer there, I became a founding partner at J.J. Doorhy & Associates.

Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to learn from and build relationships with some of the most interesting and successful people in the Chicagoland Area and beyond.

This is one of the reasons I created this website. 

I platform will serve as a microphone, a connection, will highlight some of those people, and share their story with other like minded people, dedicated to success and personal development.

I’ll also be developing other valuable content I can disseminate to my network and use this this space as a window into who I am for those that don’t know me yet.

My Background

I Grew up in Oak Lawn, IL and graduated from Marist High school in 2008.

My first job as a kid was caddying at Ridge Country Club, located on Chicago’s southside.

It was here I learned how it felt to earn money through hard work …. and, as a wet behind the ears kid trying to fit in the older kids at the caddy shack, what it felt like to lose money in short order.

My time as a caddy at Ridge Country Club would segue into my career in insurance after forming a relationship with a club member named Jerry Doorhy, who would become a mentor, a business partner, and agency principal of J.J. Doorhy & Associates.

Insurance

When I first entered the insurance industry fresh out of college, I had no idea what to expect.  Now that I am a decade in, I realize it was the perfect industry for me.

One that lends itself to building relationships over sitting on a desk all day.  And one that promotes delayed gratification and incentivized reward systems.

I enjoy the entrepreneurial side of sales and consulting.  I don’t need to ask someone’s permission for a raise, I always have the opportunity to go out and earn one by helping others.

Clients

My clients are primarily in the Construction, Transportation and Manufacturing industries with annual insurance costs between $150k and $2,000,000 in premium.

Most of my clients are like minded leaders that value strategic partnerships and our philosophy at J.J. Doorhy & Associates.

Currently, I live in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago.

My philosophy as an Agent and Consultant

 

My approach and our company wide approach at J.J. Doorhy is predicated on managing the variables that impact your future insurance costs before renewal negotiations take place.

This means always being accessible so I can address unforeseen issues that occur in real time and help you navigate the situation optimally.

It means taking a strategic, hands-on approach to claims handling. This could mean ensuring cost containment tools are deployed on a workers’ compensation claim or an auto claim is handled as expeditiously as possible when one of your vehicles is down.

Finally, it means proactively identifying claims trends and emerging risks so we can implement strategic cost containment solutions.

I am fortunate to have a terrific service team behind me that helps me carry out and deliver this philosophy to clients.
